Sighlo is a Columbus, OH based rock band formed in the late months of 2004.
Trevor Orr (bass, backing vocals) and OSU student Willie Finnegan (drums) started playing together back in high school & had played in a few local Columbus bands, but had a desire to go beyond local band status & compete on a national level. They decided to use Cringe.com, a Columbus area musician’s forum website, to send out an open call for a singer & a guitar player. Fellow OSU student Tyler Richardson (vocals) answered the call, beating out about twenty-five singers who auditioned. Vic Yoli also answered the call, ace-ing & replacing Sighlo’s then current guitar player. The four-piece rushed to get an album out a mere 2 months after forming, but due to the local buzz about the band, ‘04’s self-released “The Logic Burning” album - produced by Joe Veirs (Bobaflex) – sold a surprising 2,000 copies.
Since Sighlo’s inception in ’04, they have played over 300 shows inside of Columbus & all over the Midwest, setting attendance records at every club in Columbus & sharing stages with the likes of Trapt, Shinedown, Sevendust, Static X, Smile Empty Soul, 36 Crazyfists, Bobaflex, Powerman 5000, The Exies, Walls of Jericho & Revelation Theory. After working on a slew of songs in their home studio, the band recorded & self-released an EP – ‘06’s “This Used To Hurt”, produced by Ben Schigel (Chimaira, Drowning Pool, Walls Of Jericho). Soon after recording the EP, the band decided to add a 2nd guitar player & hired from within, drafting their guitar tech (& fellow OSU student) Chris Grim for the job.
From there, Sighlo’s attention grew rapidly, earning the distinction of “Top 15 Band on Campus” for MTVU/Epic Records “Best Band On Campus” contest, a feature on the MTV2 special “On The Rise” (spotlighting the nation’s best unsigned bands), features in all of Columbus’ newspapers & magazines, “Featured Artist” on Loudside.com, “50 Greatest MySpace Profiles” (& over 20,000 friends & over 100,000 plays) on MySpace.com, and a feature on FOX TV’s nationally syndicated show “Live at the Palestra” (along with a webcast of an entire live show on Palestra.com), & propelling sales of their self-released EP to over 4,000 copies.
In the summer of 2007, Sighlo recorded their new EP “The Start” with Ben Schigel once again handling production duties. Currently in talks with a few booking agents & labels, the band is now looking forward & their desire to take their music to the national level may finally be within their grasp.
